about

Don't get too caught up in the name.  really.  The title of this blog is taken straight from the Drive-By Truckers song of the same name.  It's a great song and is one of the many that sold me on the band the first time I came across them.  I think I've changed a lot and will change a lot more although in many senses I've never changed and probably never will.  I think I typed that sentence correctly.

What's this blog about?  Good question.

But there ain't much difference in the man I wanna be and the man I really am.
We ain't never gonna change.

coax me

More to come on the Olympics from me, but first something that I didn’t see.  Atlantic Canada house is having a pretty solid lineup of musicians perform at their digs through the games, all free.  Tonight Sloan was to hit the stage (most likely hitting it as I type)  I had other commitments tonight, but I bet they put on a good show.  I’ve seen them a few times before and they were great – hopefully a few of my friends made it in, I’ll get their review.

Hopefully I’ll get a chance to see Jill Barber later this week plus some others.  I have the impression that there are more bands to be added last-minute like.

And then there are the actual games, with like Olympic athletes competing.  That is pretty cool too.

weekend update

Well I am less than a week into a new blogging home.  Since I think I’ll be retiring the commutist blog, I might aswell write a post about cycling. (!)

I took off on an exploration mission today.  I wanted to check out the Olympic Village; or at least get near it.  Its been closed off for a while now.  Same goes for a lot of the venues.  So I ended up riding around a lot of things.  Afterwards I headed east on the Central Valley Greenway, an urban bike route that connects Vancouver to New Westminster mostly on bike path.  I’ve heard its a bit of a mess and that it isn’t always intuitive as to where you go next.  This is still true and was the reason I wanted to check it out.  I made it a ways into Burnaby, veering off the path a few times but always found it again and never went off in the wrong direction.

On the way home I called up a buddy that lived on my route back and stopped by for what turned out to be a few beers.  Luckily I had my lights and a jacket because when I left it was a lot cooler and pitch black.  Those were good beers those R&B Hoppelganger’s.

It was fun to get out for an exploration mission… and of course to stop for a good brew on the way home.  Its not about the destination, its about the beverages on the way home!

birthing

After not updating commutist on a regular basis for a while, I figured it made a lot of sense to start a new blog; cause that would make a difference. I hope it does. Time will tell.
I was after something that wasn't cycling (commuting) related. Commutist didn't demand cycling related posts, bought I thought it did.

So, new beginnings in the blogossshhhhphere. What's on the menu here? Everything and anything related to my day to day life. bikes too. Maybe I can convince Eileen to chime in too.
